Every year, over 4.5 million Canadians (including half a million Albertans) find relief from pain and discomfort and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives because of chiropractic care. It’s a proven solution to a range of health problems.

Restoring spinal alignment and motion.
The main goal of chiropractic is to restore proper alignment and motion to the 24 bones that protect the spinal cord. Why is this important? Our brains communicate with our bodies by sending signals down our spinal cord and out to the rest of the body through our many nerve roots. These nerves are protected by the spinal column. Improper joint motion or alignment in the spine therefore affects this communication and can cause an improperly functioning nervous system. As nerves get irritated and nerve signals get obstructed, our bodies’ natural ability to heal itself is reduced.

The result? Pain, muscle spasms, inflammation, soft tissue damage, degenerative changes and decreased range of motion – to name a few. Rather than just creating back problems, symptoms of an improperly aligned spine can show up throughout the body.

Getting to the root of the problem through adjustments.
By restoring proper spinal alignment and motion, a chiropractor can often get to the root cause of these symptoms through the use of chiropractic adjustments.

Chiropractors use manual adjustments to properly reposition the protective bones in the spine, allowing muscles and the nerves around them to work at their optimum. There are many different adjusting techniques, but whatever the technique, an adjustment involves using controlled and directed pressure to gently move spinal bones. These painless adjustments restore alignment and motion in the spine, get the nervous system back to proper operation and ultimately reduce painful symptoms throughout the body.

Ongoing treatment and maintenance is in the patient’s hands.
The amount of chiropractic adjustments needed varies with each patient and their individual health goals. While getting rid of the pain is an important first step, ensuring that the body is functioning effectively and maintaining this function are important elements of chiropractic care. Many patients choose to continue with some type of periodic care to maintain good spinal health, much like they would see a dentist to maintain their teeth. Nevertheless, how much a patient wants to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to them.

Ancient medicine for a modern world.
Acupuncture, along with massage, nutritional and herbal therapy, physical exercises and meditation, is a key element of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is one of the oldest medical procedures in the world. For over 2,000 years, people have used acupuncture to relieve pain and restore their bodies’ balance.
Healing one body, mind and spirit at a time.

When you are not feeling well, your body is telling you that something isn’t right. The vital Qi energy flows through your entire body through a series of pathways called Meridians, providing nourishment and strength to every cell, tissue, muscle and organ. When we experience physical, emotional and environmental stressors, it can disrupt the flow of Qi in our body and skew our natural balance. Over time, this may lead to physical and emotional symptoms and pain.

A comprehensive acupuncture evaluation helps acupuncturists detect and correct these imbalances – before they become major problems. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) works to put the body back in a balanced state.

A variety of proven techniques.
There are a variety of techniques associated with acupuncture, but all involve stimulating defined points on the body. Most commonly, this stimulation involves the use of thin needles that penetrate the skin at specific anatomical points.

Studies have shown acupuncture to be useful for relieving pain and improving function, making it an effective complement to standard care. It has proven to be effective in dealing with a range of health issues.

Acupuncture is an extremely safe, painless and drug-free therapy. Registered acupuncturists are fully trained and have agreed to a code of conduct and safety, including using sterile, disposable needles to eliminate the risk of infection.

The number of treatments that patients require is dependent on the nature of each individual’s health problems. Age and general overall health can also affect treatment time, as a chronic condition will take longer to heal than an acute injury or problem. Some acute conditions may initially require several treatments per week. Seasonal visits (spring, summer, fall and winter) are good for preventative maintenance.
